  • 1 cup of yogurt
  • 3 pearl onions or 1 tablespoon onion
  • 1 green chili *
  • 1 small stalk of curry leaves
  • 1 small piece of ginger (¼ inch)
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ teaspoon salt or as needed
  • Mortar and pestle to crush **

  • Put the yogurt in a bowl and whisk it.
  • Add ½ cup of water to the bowl and continue whisking until you get the consistency you want. If you want it to have a looser/thinner consistency you can add more water.
  • Add green chili, curry leaves to the mortar. Cut pearl onions in half and ginger into smaller pieces and place into the mortar. This will make it easier to crush them.
  • Use the pestle to crush onions, ginger, curry leaves, green chili to release the flavor. It should be pretty mashed up.
  • Add the mixture from the mortar into the whisked yogurt and mix.
  • Add ½ tsp of salt. Taste and add more if you would like.
  • White moru is ready to go!

White moru can be eaten with rice or you can add ½ cup more water and drink it as a refreshing drink!
* You can half of the green chili, if it is too hot.
**You can pulse in a mixer or use something to crush the onion.
