Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Coconut, grated*
  • 1 inch Ginger, chopped
  • 1/4 medium Onion, cut into cubes
  • 4 whole Red Chilis
  • 2 stalks Curry Leaves (optional)
  • 1 tsp Coconut Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Tamarind Paste
  • Salt, to taste

Instructions
 

  • In a pan with 1 teaspoon of oil, sauté onion, ginger, curry leaves, and red chilis for a minute or two. DO NOT let the red chili smoke.
  • Put grated coconut, tamarind paste, and sautéed items into the food processor.
  • Add salt
  • Grind well until soft
  • Taste for salt and add more, if needed
  • Thenga Chammanthi is ready to serve. Enjoy!

Notes

This dish will go well with Nan, Chapatti, Rice, Kanji, Bread, or Poori.
All the spices can be adjusted to your taste.
*You can use either frozen or fresh grated coconut.
